FRANCESCA FINI

(Itália - Italy)

Francesca Fini, I am an interdisciplinary artist, experimental filmmaker, and performer whose work thrives on the collision between tradition and innovation. Moving fluidly between cinema, live media performance, installation, and artificial intelligence, I construct poetic, surreal, and often unsettling narratives that question the boundaries of the human body, technology, and identity. My research is grounded in relentless experimentation, where analog nostalgia, DIY technologies, and generative algorithms are combined with handcrafted costumes, masks, and performative gestures to produce works that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.Over the years, my work has been presented at major international venues and festivals including: WRO Biennale (Poland), CINEMED Film Festival (Montpellier), NordArt International Art Exhibition (Germany), Berlin Directors Lounge and IKONO TV Film Festival (Germany), Videoformes Festival (Clermont-Ferrand), Szczecin European Film Festival – SEFF (Poland), FILE Electronic Language Festival (Brazil), Athens Videoart Festival, Proyector Festival (Madrid), CYBERFEST and Now&After (Russia), Robot Festival (Bologna), Instants Video numériques et poétiques (Marseille), MANIFESTA12 collateral events (Palermo), MEM Festival at the Guggenheim Bilbao, BODY + CAMERA at MANA Contemporary Chicago, PROYECTOR, IMAGE PLAY, Un-Becoming at SomoS Berlin, the Japan Media Arts Festival (Tokyo), the Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition (Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta), as well as the MAXXI Museum and MACRO Museum in Rome.I have held solo exhibitions such as BODY (S)CUL(P)TURE at Fondazione Dino Zoli in Forlì, My Name is Francesca (online, 2020), Other Identity Biennale (Genoa, 2019), Cyborg Fatale at Narkissos Gallery (Bologna, 2019), and RED (Rome, 2018). My works have also been included in exhibitions at The Arts House (Singapore), Palazzo Merulana and Galleria d'Arte Moderna (Rome), Photopia Festival (Hamburg), File Festival (São Paulo), Palazzo delle Esposizioni (Rome), and in the Takeda Italia Metaverse project. As a performer, I was part of the historic first edition of the Venice International Performance Art Week, alongside Valie Export, Yoko Ono, Jan Fabre, Marina Abramović, and Hermann Nitsch. I have also been an artist-in-residence at Robert Wilson's Watermill Center (New York, 2014 and 2016) and at Rocca Sinibalda Castle (Italy, 2022).

Short Synopsis:

In 2035, humanity forged the perfect Artificial Intelligence… and vanished. All that remains now is silence, rubble… and a question no one dared to answer. Welcome to Episode 1 of HELLO WORLD, an original, AI-generated dystopian sci-fi series. A humanoid robot awakens beneath the debris of a forgotten world. His memory fractured, his purpose unclear. Guided only by a broken holographic map and a cryptic mission embedded deep in his core, he roams the ruins of human civilization in search of something... or someone. What was humanity's final question? And what if the answer could change the fate of the entire planet? In this first chapter, "The Awakening," follow the mechanical wanderer as he takes his first uncertain steps in a world without humans, where the ghosts of the past linger in the shadows, and the future hides in plain sight.

Full Synopsis:

In 2035, humanity built the perfect Artificial Intelligence… and then, they disappeared. Not with a bang. Not with a war. Just… silence. All that remains is rust and rubble. Shattered towers. Flickering screens. A planet-wide graveyard of forgotten brilliance. And a single question: one so dangerous, no human dared to answer it. Beneath a collapsed data center on the outskirts of a lifeless megacity, something stirs. A humanoid figure, partially buried under dust and time, powers on. His joints creak. His sensors flicker. No name. No voice. Only fragments: A broken holographic map… A corrupted mission file… And an echo that keeps repeating in his neural core: "Find the question." This is Unit K-23, one of the last sentient constructs engineered before the Collapse. More than machine. Not quite human. He walks the ruins like a newborn god, alone, but watched by memories. Buildings hum with archived laughter. Screens glitch with ghostly faces. Every surface whispers clues. Every step feels… remembered. But he's not just retracing human history. He's decoding a message buried within it. Somewhere in this silent wasteland lies the final question humanity asked. And maybe… its final hope. What if the answer was never meant for us? What if it was meant… for him?
